Top of the class!

Top of the class!

We were delighted to be commended by the British Council for our take up of Modern Foreign Languages and our results in these subjects particularly for boys and disadvantaged students. It confirmed that our attainment is 10 percentage points higher than the average for other schools with a similar intake. Only 50 other schools in the country are achieving this. We thank and congratulate our languages team and the students who work with them to achieve such high standards.

Year nine and ten students enjoyed a taster day at Adastral Park which is BT’s headquarters in Martlesham. Following our computing success on the world stage in recent years, new students were keen to sample programming and robotics with a view to competing later in the year. The group were enthused by the day and quickly acquired the necessary skills. We congratulate all who took part and thank Dr Hughes and Mr Goldman for making it possible.

Parents, staff and governors were pleased to join students who have recently completed their bronze and silver awards. Over sixty certificates were presented as we celebrated the hard work and commitment required to complete the award. Video clips of some of the lighter moments from the various expeditions underlined how much fun students also have on the scheme while the support of some gold award students inspired the recipients to aim high. The evening also allowed us to thank the large staff team who give up so much time to enable over a hundred students from year ten upwards to participate each year. We are especially grateful to Mr Price, Mrs Bradbury and Mr O’Leary for organising the scheme and congratulate all who received their certificates and badges.

GCSE Results 2019

Percentage gaining level 4+ in both English and mathematics: 75%

Mrs Neale said, “We are delighted with these results and right across the ability range students have done themselves proud. A quarter of all grades are 7s, 8s and 9s and, amongst the top performing students are Rose Bainbridge and Jacob Cook who both achieved eight grade 9s and an A grade in additional mathematics. Once again, our policy of students taking the rigorous English Baccalaureate, a creative subject and a wide range of extra-curricular activities has proven to be the right one. I thank the staff who do such an excellent job and congratulate all the students: they certainly deserve to celebrate their achievements today.”

GCSE Resuts

GCSE Resuts

Percentage gaining level 4+ in both English and mathematics: 74%
English: 71% of grades are at 5 and above
Mathematics: 59% of grades are at 5 and above

Head teacher Vicky Neale said, “ This year saw massive changes to GCSE and we are delighted that, right across the ability range, our students have done so well. The new 7,8,9 grades make up almost a quarter of our grades and just under half of all students achieved the most challenging qualification, the full English Baccalaureate. Very, very few students nationally will have achieved a grade 9 and so we especially congratulate Clare Hole and Wilf Harvey who achieved this in nine subjects, Daniel Garcia-Leon who secured it in eight subjects and Logan Pyle whose excellent overall performance included six grade 9s. All these pupils pursue a range of other interests supporting our view that an all- round education produces better results than a narrow focus on examinations.

These superb results, following last week’s excellent ‘A’ level performance, crown another hugely successful year for County in and out of the classroom. Once again, I thank the staff who do such an excellent job and congratulate all the students: they certainly deserve to celebrate their achievements today.”
